What’s a good state university. A uni that’s not private? Maybe one good for pre-law. Hopefully on the east coast or New England region…?

As a general rule, the best public universities are the ones that have the state name in it — as in University of Michigan, University of Virginia, University of Massachusetts, etc. Those with State University are usually second best. Those with directional names (e.g., Western Kentucky, Northern Illinois) are not usually as good as those. State Schools with bidirectional names (SouthWestern XXX State University) are usually at the bottom of the heap. Public schools with town names (Slippery ROck, Coppin State, Salem State) are usually not as good either.

UMass Amherst and UConn are probably the best public universities in New England.
