Can brief exposure to laser lights at self-check out stations become harmful to your sight over time?

I occasionally work at a self-check out station (like the ones that you see at the grocery stores) for my summer job and sometimes I accidentally glance at the laser light being emitted from the station. Of course I quickly turn away when this happens but I was just wondering if these brief momentary exposures add up over time?

I built them for 5 years and if I recall correctly, they are class 2 laser devices. All the ones I have seen have labels not to look directly in the beam. So yes, they can hurt you, but I do not think you have to worry since your description says you look away. Extended or intentional exposure is what the warning is about.
