What are the Harry Potter books about?

Hi there, I’m aware of all the hype but all I know about Harry Potter is that the story is about a kid who was abused by foster parents and is found to be a yound wizard, goes off to a special wizard school, gets a ginger mate and a girlfriend and there are bad guys at the school.

So help me out, what’s the general idea of the books (in brief). Thanks!

HP of course…i mean, the movies are made after the books so isn’t it pretty obvious
