house cues? mcdermott, lucasi or sterling?
looking for 4-57/58in cues 18 to 21oz, 1-52in and 1-48in cue. some people just like a regular looking cue and thats what i’m looking for. i had some ramin wood cues but they always have a rough feel.
Buying sneaky petes for house cues (as Lori suggests) is a waste IMO. One piece cues are perfectly fine, and I even know people that prefer them to just about any two piece cue.
Dufferins are generally considered the best house cues, and I’d tend to agree. I even know a guy who brings his own to league and tournaments (and he’s a very good player). He has a 5 foot case he carries it around in.
I have no experience with Sterling, so I would tend to stay away from them personally, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good. I just haven’t seen them anywhere. After doing a quick search, I did find that they make some that are fiberglass rather than wood. Do NOT buy those cues. I’ve used fiberglass house cues before, and they are the definition of crap. Complete junk and a waste of money.
I’m not a huge fan of Lucasi, in general, and after doing a quick search for them it seems their house cues are basically sneaky petes that have the shaft permanently glued to the butt. That’s kind of odd, so I don’t think I’d go with them. Many cuemakers will say that when they make cues, they are trying to imitate the feel and playability of a high quality one piece cue. Buying a sneaky pete that’s glued together defeats the purpose of getting nice one piece cues.
I didn’t even know McDermott made one piece cues, and I can’t even find any on the internet. If they make them I would not hesitate to go with them, but I personally cannot find any.
