Is there anyway to dye a breast collar black?

I have a dark brown breast collar for my throughbred and was wondering if there was anyway I could die it black?

I actually just dyed some of my leather tack from a light reddish brown to a dark havanna (sp?) brown and it was surprisingly easy. I used Fiebings Deglazer and leather dye (I got mine at Fleet Farm, but I’m sure you can get it at shoe repair or tack shops)- the Deglazer is used first to strip the leather of any existing dye, and then you can apply the new dye. You’ll probably have to apply a couple of coats, but I would think that going from dark brown to black should be fairly simple. It can get kind of messy, especially when you’re using the Deglazer to pull off the old dye, so make sure to wear gloves, and put plastic bags or thicker cardboard under the tack that you are dying.

Once you get the hang of it, you’ll find that it’s really nice because now you don’t have to search high-and-low to find matching colored tack, and you can make older, scuffed-up tack look new again :)
